In "Other" Words

Christian Women Online has started an interesting project, in which a quote is posted each Friday and Christian women are invited to write their thoughts about the quote, "In Other Words," on the following Tuesday. Here is this week's quote:

This reminded me of another quote, this time from Socrates:

It's not a bad thing to spend some time "visiting with" or examining oneself, in fact, it can be a very good thing, but we've got a problem:

The Bible tells us in Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

How does a person with a sinful heart "visit" or examine oneself manage to come away undeceived?

James tells us that unless we look into the perfect law, we will be like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror, but goes away and at once forgets what he was like. (James 1:22-25) It is only when we look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, will we be able to persevere, and receive the promised blessing that comes with being "a doer." (the life worth living!)

So, go have a little visit with yourself; just be sure to take along the right mirror.
